Focus on Goals Instead of Comfort

By Mike Henry Sr.

Focus on your most elevated goal to discover your best energy. Comfort is our default goal when no other goal is front and center. As we pursue comfort, we settle for mediocrity. Focus on goals to grow. Lose focus on goals to stagnate.

The Apostle Paul, writing to the Colossians said, “Set your mind on things above, and not things on earth, for you have died and your life is hid with Christ. When Christ, who is our life is revealed, then you also will be revealed in glory.” (Colossians 3:3-5).

Jesus started this with “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

When lower goals take over, we succumb to the tyranny of the urgent. Urgent, lower goals shout, even demand attention. Often, urgent tasks take over and consume our time. Our most important goals need time but they are seldom urgent. A limited focus on the urgent will cause us to lose sight of our greatest goals. Over time, we may even forget our goals and dreams and wonder where the time went.

Focus on Goals Instead of Comfort | Follower of OneImagine your career is a long car trip. At slower speeds, you are free to focus on the car in front of you or your next turn. To go faster, look farther. Obstacles handled at a distance are easy. When they get close, they become urgent. A long view is necessary for ease, speed and distance.

When we set our minds on things above and when we treasure the truly eternal, we aim for our highest and our best life. Focus on your treasure and comfort blurs. Focus on the eternal and the urgent loses focus. When urgent issues arise, handle or delegate and then get back to your treasure. Great goals need great focus and persistence. Focus on your greatest, most eternal goal and even mundane daily tasks take on an eternal perspective.
