Well, it’s Monday. What do you think about Mondays? Over at Worklife.org, they have a series and some resources titled Thank God It’s Monday. How do you thank God for Monday?
Some Mondays, I must simply make myself do what Jesus wants us to do. I must love God and love people from the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39). Maybe you’re like me and need this today.
Love God
When I obey God, I show my love. He tells me to consider my trials as joy (James 1:2-4) and to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:38-47). Today, I want to thank Him for everything that is going to happen in advance. I will ask Him to show me how to be thankful for everything that comes my way. Maybe I can meditate on those verses or some others, like 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 which says, “In everything give thanks…”
Love People
For me, this starts with putting people first (Philippians 2:3). I don’t naturally consider others more important than myself. I think I need to take care of myself first. “I’m in job transition, so shouldn’t I look out for myself first? Surely no one would expect me to serve others ahead of looking for a job, would they?”
So I mentally walk through my day, thinking about my meetings and praying for the people I’ll meet. I also pray for the people who read these posts and for the ones that take part in the Follower of One community. The scope of “others” I must consider more important than myself can get pretty large.
If you’re like me, it’s tempting to consider our own situation the most important and to take care of ourselves. What will our Monday look like if we can put other people first?
What about you? How do you focus on what God would have you do to make Him known and make Monday exciting?
