Why Are We Here?

By Mike Henry Sr.

What is God’s purpose for you today? Or tomorrow? Do you know what He wants you to accomplish? Why did He save you? Do you ever wonder?

I believe God created people, in his own image, with the power to create. We’re a special creature, not just another animal. He created us for a special relationship with God. As a result, when the first one of us, a guy named Adam, decided to go his own way and violate the one rule God established, he broke that relationship with God, and every one of us since then have done so, too (Romans 3:23).

Because of those beliefs, I wonder why God saved me. What was his purpose for saving me? Why did God pay the penalty for my efforts to separate myself from Him? Why did He give me a new Spirit that helps me want to live in relationship with Him? What was His objective?

I find a reason for this in Ephesians 2:10. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, so that we would walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-9 explains the “How?” of our restoration to a relationship with God, and Ephesians 2:10 explains the “Why?”

When some people put their faith in Jesus to restore their relationship with God, they believe that’s all there is. In a way, they might be correct. Is it possible to state that I trust Jesus and then go to heaven? There was a guy on the cross next to Jesus and based on Jesus’ words recorded in Luke 23:40-43, that criminal is in heaven with Jesus right now.

But the book of James also famously states that if we claim we have faith and our actions don’t reflect that faith, we risk fooling ourselves (James 2:14-26). So, to avoid fooling myself, I have chosen to find ways to walk in the “good works” mentioned in Ephesians 3:20 every day. Over the next few days, I’ll outline them.

Meanwhile, would you comment below? How do you think we experience the truth of Ephesians 2:10 in our lives every day? What do you tink God would like us to do every day? I’m open to your thoughts and comments.
