Gratitude in Prayer at Work

By Heather Shaffer

Scripture:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6

Devotional Thought:

In the busyness of work, it’s easy to focus on deadlines, meetings, and challenges—but often we overlook the people who help make our days meaningful. As women of faith in the workplace, we have a special opportunity to cultivate gratitude, not only in our hearts but also in our prayers.

Expressing appreciation in faith is more than saying thank you. It’s lifting our colleagues before God—asking Him to strengthen, guide, and bless them. When we do this, gratitude becomes a spiritual act that shifts the atmosphere of our workplace. Prayer transforms appreciation into encouragement and creates an environment of grace and mutual respect.

Actionable Steps:

  • Start your day in gratitude: Thank God for each colleague or team member.
  • Pray for their needs: Ask God to bless their work, health, and family.
  • Speak words of affirmation: Let your gratitude be heard through kind words or notes.
  • Encourage consistently: Make appreciation a daily rhythm, not just a reaction to success.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the people You’ve placed in my workplace. I lift them up to You, asking that You bless their efforts, guide their decisions, and fill their hearts with joy. Help me to recognize their contributions and express gratitude sincerely. May my words and prayers reflect Your love and create a spirit of encouragement around me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Call to Action:

Today, take five minutes to pray specifically for one colleague or team member. Thank God for their life and ask for His blessing over them. Then, let them know you appreciate them—a note, a word of encouragement, or a simple “thank you” can go a long way.
