This is a guide to a 6-week Marketplace Mission Trip and can be done individually or even better with your own small group.
In this guide, you will cover a key idea each week to help you do your job like a missionary. After each session, you’ll work through a Bible verse and suggested activity for each workday of the following week.

A Marketplace Mission Trip is a 2-week guided experience where you treat your everyday workplace as your mission field. Instead of traveling somewhere, you stay at your regular job and intentionally pray for, appreciate, and serve the people already around you — coworkers, customers, vendors, your boss. Follower of One provides the framework, the daily practice, and a community of other participants going through it at the same time. It was created in 2019, and over 1,000 people from individuals to entire churches have taken one.
The full experience is two weeks. There’s a short kickoff meeting at the start, a few minutes of intentional practice each workday (the Five Daily Habits — pray, appreciate others, know what you believe, serve others, speak for yourself), a mid-trip check-in, and a wrap-up meeting at the end. You don’t take time off work. You don’t change your schedule. You just go to your normal job with new intention.
Yes. The Marketplace Mission Trip is free because partners and donors make it possible for the next participant to take a step closer to Jesus. There’s also a paid workbook version available if you’d prefer a longer 6-week self-guided trip you can do with a small group, but the standard 2-week trip in our online community costs nothing.
No. That’s the whole point. A Marketplace Mission Trip happens where you already work — your office, your shop, your job site, your home office. You stay in your normal life and bring intentional faith to it. No travel, no time off, no career change required.
Yes — and this is one of the best ways to do it. Churches schedule a Marketplace Mission Trip for their members as a group, often tied to a sermon series or small-group season. We’ve partnered with churches like Prestonwood Baptist and Grace on the Mount, and over 6 churches and 3 ministries have already taken trips together. If you’re a pastor or missions leader, we can walk you through what it looks like to launch one with your congregation.

A traditional short-term mission trip takes you somewhere else for a week or two to serve a community you don’t normally interact with. A Marketplace Mission Trip flips that model: instead of going somewhere else, you go more intentionally to the place you’re already at most of your waking life — your work. The same posture of prayer, service, and witness applies. The difference is that the mission field is the people God has already placed around you Monday through Friday.
It’s for any working Christian — what we call a marketplace Christ-follower. You don’t need to be a business owner, executive, or church leader. Cashiers, nurses, teachers, salespeople, mechanics, accountants, stay-at-home parents, retirees with part-time work — everyone with a sphere of influence has a marketplace. If you spend time around other people during your week, you have a mission field.
