Natural Conversations That Lead to Christ with Carol Middlekauff, Ep #141

By Tammy Burke

Carol Middlekauff is the author of the book, “Take Someone with You to Heaven,” in which she shares story after story of God working through her. Her message is simple: Anyone can share their faith with others—you just have to make yourself available. Carol joins me in this episode of Follower of One to share just how easy it can be to share your faith in natural conversations.

Sharing your faith starts by taking one step at a time

When Carol first got married, her husband wasn’t a Christian. They went to visit a couple that had just returned from Africa. Her husband begged her not to talk about God. But his first question to the couple was “What do y’all do.” They were missionaries. They answered all of Chuck’s questions and Chuck got saved.

Soon after, they started attending a church and heard William Fay speak. He authored the book, “Share Jesus Without Fear.” They were encouraged and started slowly sharing their faith with others.

After they moved to Austin, the pastor of the church they attended encouraged people to go door-to-door and give a “FAITH” presentation:

  • F is for forgiveness (you can’t go to heaven without forgiveness)
  • A is for available (forgiveness is available but not automatic)
  • I is for impossible (it’s impossible to get into heaven because of sin)
  • T is for turn (it’s time to turn to Jesus)
  • H is for heaven (when you turn to Jesus you’re accepted into heaven)

Taking a simple step and simply being available to let God use them was all it took, and they’ve never looked back.

Working with Bill Glass’s ministry, “Behind the Walls”

Chuck went to a men’s retreat and decided to start visiting people in jail to share his faith. He visited people in their cells for over a year. When they moved to Austin, they started working with Bill Glass’s ministry, Behind the Walls. Bill Glass, a former football player, took some football players with him to run a football clinic. He shared the Gospel in prison for over 50 years before he passed away.

Carol and Chuck have been to more than 100 prisons. Bill would give his testimony and would then huddle up with the inmates to pray for them. If you want to get your feet wet and start sharing your faith, prisoners are hungry for love and hungry for God.

Chuck and Carol share their faith wherever they are

Chuck and Carol print thousands of tracts and share them as they travel between Chuck’s Art Galleries. Carol emphasizes that it’s something that anyone can do. If you’re too shy to talk to everyone, you can simply hand out a pamphlet. She shares them in hotels, restaurants, laundromats, and even with people walking in and out of doors.

Carol is a beautiful example that you can step into whatever God has called you to do wherever you are. God doesn’t call the abled—he calls the available. He’s the one that does the work.

This episode is packed full of examples where Carol has made herself available to be used by God, started a simple conversation, and shared her faith.
