One True Gospel

There’s a song that often comes on the radio when I’m driving in the car. It talks about the Bible as the one true gospel and that we have the ability to experience freedom because of the truth of the gospel of Jesus.

I personally love this song and loudly belt out the lyrics whenever I hear it. After I found myself singing the song around the house for a week straight, the weight of the words really hit me. There is only one true gospel.

Many people believe in many different religions and religious figures. As the world moves closer to the return of Jesus, individuals have become emboldened to share beliefs that are contrary to the Bible. However, God tells us to hold on to this truth: The life, ministry, and death of Jesus that we have accepted in our hearts is the ONLY truth that matters.

Block letters that spell "I am the truth."

Relative Truth

You’ve probably heard of this idea of relative truth — the idea that there is no absolute truth, only the truths that are believed by each person. This means that what I believe today can change tomorrow and, while different from what you believe, can still be accepted as a form of truth.

Relative truth pops up most often in relationships, specifically during intense conversations. I often notice that when I have discussions with my husband, his perception (relativity) of events bears little resemblance to mine. This could be due to our individual passions; our upbringing; our outlook on life in relation to our gender. Whatever the reason, this is relative truth in action. In the context of relationships, relative truth may provide us with deeper understanding of one another, but when it comes to the absolute truth, relative truth cannot stand.

The Absolute Truth

Absolute truth is the truth that is irrefutable. It’s the belief that two plus two will always equal four. As we stand on biblical principles, this truth will always remain: Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10–11, ESV)

Many may try to understand the mysteries of God with their relative truth. They may try to discount Jesus and the work of Calvary with their relative truth. But believers will always remember that we only receive salvation through accepting our Lord and Savior, and that is the only true gospel.

Spend Two Weeks Ministering to Others

Follower of One’s Marketplace Mission Trips are designed to challenge Christ followers to be intentional about being on mission — at work. Comprised of two weeks, the Marketplace Mission Trip mirrors what a mission experience in the field would entail. You will be prepped with prayers and questions during week one so that you can go to your mission trip location, your job, and win others to Jesus. During week two, you will take what you learned and put it into action. There will also be early evening and night calls you can join to share how the Lord moved in the marketplace.
