Ready to Share the Faith

By Mike Henry

The December 15 entry in My Utmost for His Highest, Approved To God, is very important and directly related to the ministry of Follower of One. The author challenges us to always be ready to talk about our faith.

But we can’t get ready if all we do is read and listen. We must talk about the change Christ has made in us. We must practice that dialog with our Christian friends. We must say what we’ve experienced so it becomes natural to us.

We’ve been given a job in society to share the Good News about what Jesus has done. The best news isn’t what we read or hear a pastor talk about. The best news is personal, real. I talk about my belief in the first person. It happened to me. And because it happened to be, I’m an authority in this area. I have first-hand knowledge and experience with the God of the universe. He came and suffered, bled and died for me. I’ve experienced it in my personal life in particular ways.

Two men sit at an outside table talking.

Without your first-hand testimony of the good and bad, ups and downs of your life and work, Jesus is just another name in just another book. In some degree, the eternal destiny of people you know depends on you living differently. People who don’t follow Jesus are in a very long cul-de-sac: they are going nowhere fast and will eventually hit a dead-end. They need people they trust to demonstrate a different way. Most can’t be told — they must discover it. Your ability to explain with rational sincerity is key.

Why not join us on the next Marketplace Mission Trip? This is where we practice sincerely sharing out faith so that we can talk about our faith to those who don’t yet know Christ. We practice the five daily activities (or habits) we each need to connect to Jesus in our workplaces. Please don’t just talk about this; sign up today.

Join our online community and create a profile. Once you’re in, find the next mission trip on the left-hand menu and “Start” the trip. That will reserve your spot for the next Marketplace Mission Trip and give you access to videos to help you get ready.

Every ounce of energy and prayer you invest in this exercise will forever count. You will never lose your reward (see Matthew 10:42). Watch Jesus use you in the lives of others, because you bent your life to follow him. You’ll be very glad you did.
