Reliably Dependent – Proverbs 30:8-9

By Michael Henry Jr.

In Proverbs 30:8-9, the author prays for enough provision to live, neither poverty nor riches, lest he be tempted to deny God or steal and profane His name. This verse teaches us to be content with what we have and to trust God to provide for our needs.

It’s important to have ambition, but our ambition should be centered on Christ, not on stuff, rewards, or accolades. We should aim to follow Jesus and do His will, rather than pursuing our own selfish desires.

When we aim too high, we are tempted to go after the temporal things of the world. When we aim too low, we go after nothing. We should aim to live in the sweet spot, pursuing Jesus and His calling for our lives.

Let’s find our spot in Christ and live in it, letting Him define our ambition and guide our steps. When we do this, we will be content with what we have and we will be able to use our resources to serve God and others.
