We Model Our Beliefs – Proverbs 29:19

By Tammy Burke

What makes a difference, what we say, or what we do?

A slave will not be instructed by words alone; For though he understand there will be no response. Proverbs 29:19 NASB

Anyone can tell someone else what to do. But our associates and our kids and our friends will do what we do, not what we say. When we live our faith in the workplace, it has a bigger impact than when we simply tell people about Jesus. It begins by modeling our faith and work as an integrated life.

This proverb is designed to remind us to model our desires. Telling someone is easy. Living out what we expect of others is much harder. And we all have built-in radar for a fake.

We most commonly think of this as a boss or a parent. But this applies in just about anything. If something is easy to say and hard to do, we end up doing what we see others do.

So what do your coworkers see? Are we praying for our coworkers? Are we available to help? Are we actually investing in our relationships with them because God brought them into our lives?
