Envy is a Dead End – Proverbs 23:17-18

By Michael Henry Jr.

The passage for today is Proverbs 23:17-18. It says, “Don’t let your heart envy sinners. Instead, always fear the Lord, for then you will have a future and your hope will not be dashed.”

This verse tells us that we should not envy others, but instead fear the Lord. When we envy others, we are focused on what they have and what we don’t have. This can lead to discontentment and unhappiness. However, when we fear the Lord, we are focused on Him and His promises. This gives us hope for the future and helps us to avoid the trap of envy.

Envy is a destructive emotion that can damage our relationships and our own well-being. It is important to be aware of the dangers of envy and to take steps to avoid it. We can do this by focusing on our own blessings, being grateful for what we have, and trusting in God’s promises.

Let’s all strive to live our lives free from envy. Let’s focus on fearing the Lord and living for His glory. When we do this, we will find that we have a hope and a future that will never be dashed.
