This passage and the ones yesterday and the day before were what Jesus said at the end of a unique parable. He talked about a dishonest manager. He made the point that the manager was shrewd, or clever, resourceful even if he was dishonest. He made a reference to our honesty, and how if we’re dishonest or unfaithful in a small thing, then we will be in bigger things too.
Then, Jesus asks these 2 questions. These questions seem to guide us to conclude some other things about our next life. In our life after this temporal life, there will be true riches and they will be our own.
True riches must be those that never lose their value. And for them to be ours, we won’t lose them either.
Does that idea cause you to think of any questions? it does for me. If there are “true” riches in heaven, and if they will be “my own.” What must I do to get them? I go back to the parable. I need to use the wealth and resources I’ve been given in this world to make friends for eternity.
I need to use temporal resources to make Jesus visible while I’m here on this planet, living this temporal life.
