What gives you the strength to keep moving forward, even when life feels difficult?
As followers of Jesus, our strength isn’t found in our abilities, our circumstances, or even our motivation. Scripture reminds us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. That joy comes from walking in relationship with Christ and choosing to obey Him every day.
Obedience Is More Than Following Rules
When we hear the word obedience, it’s easy to picture someone simply doing what they’re are told. But biblical obedience is much deeper than that.
Our relationship with God is not like that of a servant who reluctantly follows orders. We are His children. We have been adopted into His family, and our obedience flows out of love, trust, and relationship.
As we learn to obey Jesus, we begin to understand Him more deeply. Obedience opens the door to greater discernment, a stronger relationship with God, and a life filled with His joy.
Joy Gives Us Strength
Nehemiah 8:10 was spoken after the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall—a remarkable accomplishment that required vision, perseverance, and God’s guidance.
After the work was complete, Nehemiah instructed the people to celebrate:
“Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Joy is more than an emotion. It is spiritual strength.
It gives us the courage to continue when life becomes difficult. It keeps us focused on God’s promises instead of our problems. Joy pulls us forward into the future God has prepared for us.
Jesus Himself demonstrated this truth. Hebrews tells us that “for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross.” Joy empowered Him to fulfill the Father’s mission, and that same joy empowers us today.
Joy Inspires Others
One joyful Christian can transform the atmosphere of an entire workplace, family, or community.
Imagine a world where Christians were known first for their joy—people who encourage others, serve generously, forgive quickly, and bring hope wherever they go.
That is the kind of life Jesus calls us to live.
When we choose obedience, we experience His joy. That joy changes our attitudes, shapes our actions, and naturally influences the people around us.
People notice authentic joy because it cannot be manufactured. It is the evidence of Christ at work within us.
Every Day Is a Mission Trip
At Follower of One, we believe every believer is a marketplace minister.
You don’t have to travel across the world to be on mission. Every meeting, conversation, email, and interaction is an opportunity to make Jesus visible.
Sometimes the most powerful prayer we can pray is simply:
“Here I am, Jesus. Send me. What do You want me to do next?”
When we begin each day with that attitude, God faithfully opens doors for us to serve others, encourage someone who is hurting, or simply reflect His love through our daily work.
A Community That Encourages One Another
One of the beautiful reminders from this Vision Cast is that we were never meant to follow Jesus alone.
The Marketplace Mission Trip continues to bring together believers from around the world who encourage one another to faithfully live out their faith every day. Participants are challenged to engage consistently, pray for one another, and grow together as they learn to integrate faith into their everyday lives.
It’s encouraging to see both long-time participants and newcomers embracing this journey, building meaningful relationships, and discovering that living on mission is not reserved for special occasions—it is a daily calling.
When believers encourage one another, joy becomes contagious.
Choose Joy Today
Life will always present challenges. Circumstances will change. Difficult days will come.
But our joy is not based on circumstances.
Our joy is rooted in the unchanging truth that Jesus has already overcome the world.
Today, ask God to help you walk in joyful obedience. Allow His joy to become your strength, your motivation, and your testimony.
As you faithfully follow Christ, your life becomes an invitation for others to know Him as well.
Because everything we do as followers of Jesus matters forever.
So today, wherever God has placed you, live with joy, obey Him wholeheartedly, and make Christ visible in your sphere of influence.
