Marketplace Mission Trip
When you sign up for the Marketplace Mission Trip, you’ve taken a step toward growing in Christ.
Ephesians 6:12 says “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places.”
You will experience resistance. First you may think you don’t have time. Or you’ll decide not to invite anyone else because you want to check it out first.
As we get closer to the start, you’ll get distracted. Some have signed up on Friday and, by Monday, forgotten all about it. And your work will get very busy. The distractions will compound.
One person who took the trip said he was caught off guard because when he went overseas, he was unplugged. On the Marketplace Mission Trip, we can’t unplug. We have to train ourselves to concentrate and intentionally invite Jesus into our workday. Even if you miss a couple of days, keep going. This all boils down to praying for people and doing what God says. Pray for the people you meet today and look for ways to serve them. God will do the rest.
You may even experience some spiritual warfare. We’ve had people get terribly ill and others whose jobs changed drastically right when the trip started. A few family members have taken ill and people had to stay home with kids. Pray through Ephesians 6:10-20 about the armor of God. Remember God is in control and he will get you through it. He will be glorified.
Ecclesiastes 4:12, “And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.”
Ask a friend to join you. Call someone today and ask them to pray for you and contact you daily. Refuse to listen to every discouraging voice. This is only for two weeks, but it is two weeks. It will be harder than you think, but it will also be more rewarding than doing nothing.
Finally, you may not experience anything miraculous. You might think that it’s because you didn’t have time or didn’t do the right things but that’s not a voice from God. We often don’t see any miracles on our Marketplace Mission Trip because, after all, it is work. Miracles don’t happen every day. Make time to join the calls because some people will have special things to report but not everyone will. Make a point to join at least three of the conference calls so you can hear the stories of others.
You can do this. God wants you to work for him. Welcome to your job. You are a full-time minister.
