Workplace Culture by Design: The Professional Influence of a Thankful Heart

By Heather Shaffer

Scripture:

“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” — Colossians 4:6 (NIV)

Devotion:

Words carry incredible influence in the workplace. A thankful heart doesn’t stay silent—it speaks. When gratitude overflows, it changes the atmosphere around us. Speaking faith in moments of frustration reminds others (and ourselves) that God is still in control.

When we choose to declare what we believe instead of what we feel, we shift the tone of our environment. Faith-filled words bring peace where tension once lived and hope where doubt tried to settle. Each of us has the power to create a ripple of gratitude throughout our teams, our offices, and beyond.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to speak words that reflect my faith and gratitude. Let my heart overflow with thankfulness, and may my speech inspire grace and hope in those around me. Amen.

Reflection Question:

What’s one faith-filled phrase you can speak this week to cultivate gratitude and peace in your workplace?
