I find myself hitting the snooze button more often than not. When I finally get up, I instantly regret my decision to hit the snooze button, yet I continue to do it daily. This causes me to rush to get to class or work on time and limits my time with God that day. I notice a difference in my day when this happens, but why is it so difficult to do it?
I recently started going to a young adult’s group at my church, and the pastor has a passion for encouraging the young adults to form a solid morning routine that consists of spending their alone time with God. A scripture he used to back up his thoughts was Mark 1:35. This scripture states, “very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” This is a perfect example of the discipline we should practice in our daily lives.
This routine will not only positively affect your day, but it will equip you for ministry opportunities at work or in the classroom. Wherever you may be, this will strengthen you to glorify Him and further the Kingdom.
The main benefit of spending your morning with God includes heart posture. Heart posture to me is the attitude you approach someone or something with. For example, going to a church service, I want my heart to be in a posture of worship. Our heart posture determines our perspectives for the rest of the day. There is a noticeable difference for my days when I make time for God.
I have challenged myself to become disciplined in my morning routine this semester of college, and I encourage you to join me in this journey. My routine will consist of eating a healthy breakfast, quiet time, and working out. My outcome goal is to prepare my heart for any mission work that may present itself each day.
What does your morning routine look like? Does it start with God? Let us know in the comments!
