“Serving with Grace: Uplifting Others at Work”

By Heather Shaffer

📖 Scripture:

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” — Ephesians 4:29

✨ Devotional Thought:

As women in the workplace, we often juggle multiple roles—leader, mentor, colleague, and sometimes caregiver. Amid deadlines, meetings, and constant demands, it’s easy to overlook the power of encouragement and service.

Ephesians 4:29 reminds us that our words and actions have the power to build up or tear down. Serving others in your workplace doesn’t have to be grandiose—it can be as simple as:

  • Offering guidance to a newer colleague
  • Listening attentively to someone struggling with a task
  • Speaking words of encouragement when a teammate feels discouraged
  • Taking a moment to celebrate the achievements of others

By serving and appreciating your colleagues, you demonstrate not only professionalism but also God’s love and grace in action. Your service becomes a form of ministry, showing that gratitude is more than a feeling—it’s a practice that strengthens your team and glorifies God.

💡 Reflection Questions:

  • How can I serve my colleagues today in a way that uplifts and encourages them?
  • Are my words contributing to a positive, supportive workplace, or could they unintentionally harm someone?
  • Who in my workplace might need a word of affirmation or a helping hand this week?

🙏 Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for placing me in this workplace. Teach me to use my words wisely and my actions intentionally to encourage and serve my colleagues. Help me, as a woman of faith, to reflect Your love through acts of appreciation and service. May my presence bring light, support, and grace to everyone I encounter today. Amen.

🎯 Call to Action:

This week, choose one colleague or team member to serve intentionally. Speak a word of encouragement, offer practical help, or simply listen. Let your appreciation be visible in both your words and actions.
