Reward for Persecution Part 2 – Matthew 5:10-12

By SAM Morrison

Reward for Persecution

Rather than trying to wedge Jesus into every conversation, Jesus is saying we will be persecuted because of who we are. We are people who pursue justice (“righteousness” in vs. 10) and we follow Jesus (“because of me” in vs. 11). In 1 Peter 3:14, Peter makes this point as well. We may suffer for the sake of righteousness. But, Peter reminds us to always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks. We don’t need to force every conversation into a discussion about faith. Instead, let’s live in such a way that others are confounded. Some will persecute, ridicule, or separate. But others will ask. And if we know what we believe, we will be able to speak for ourselves.
