Will One Prayer Do The Job?

By Mike Henry Sr.

How many times must you ask God for something? Will one prayer do the job? And how long should we pray? Do you always pray with your head down and your eyes closed?

“Lord, save me!”

Peter, Matthew 14:30b

Great Intentions

Many people start the Marketplace Mission Trip with great intentions. We all want to be more Christ-like in our daily lives. We want to change and be more intentional with our faith but the inertia of our lives and our routines hold us back. Then, in the rush of a workday, an email gets missed. And once an email doesn’t get read, we decide we’re behind, we have too many emails to read to “catch up”, so we give up.

Pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Some respondents on each mission trip did not open the first email the day they received it. After that, they felt like they were behind and never “caught up.” Since the trip begins on a Monday, I can understand how easily you might miss the first email or two. They don’t call it Monday for nothing. Many of my Monday’s have come and gone with no thought of God.

Others on the trip only opened 2 or 3 of the first emails. Everyone finds it easier to miss more once they missed one. Some friends told me they were still checking out the emails days or weeks after the end of the trip.

This was a great idea, but I don’t have time.”

One Prayer

Would you like to know how to become an engaged marketplace minister? Pray, by name, for the people who you will interact with during the next 24 hours.

Stop right here. Do it right now.

Then, do it again tomorrow. And the next day.

Who will you see tomorrow? Even if you don’t know their names, pray for them. I’m going to a coffee shop tomorrow. I know 2 of the staff members’ names. So I ask God to give them favor and success, to move them one step closer to Himself, and to use me if He desires.

Everything Begins with One Prayer

When you ask God to use you to bless others, you become a Marketplace Missionary. “Here I am, God. Please use me.”, transports you to the mission field. Even if you miss every email or every conference call, one prayer is all it takes. Do we believe God answers one prayer?

Delete It

Start one of our email programs. Then, if you miss an email, delete it. Do not feel as though you have to, “catch up”. Open the next one and do what it says. I will work to make them each standalone. Go ahead, sign up for the next Marketplace Mission trip now. Let’s get better at this as we go. God wants you to walk with Him and pray without ceasing. You can only pray one prayer at a time. One prayer must be enough.

Join us by signing up for our next Marketplace Mission Trip. See how it can transform your workday.
