Jesus Gives the Power to Serve

By Mike Henry Sr.

Power To Serve Others

When we trust God with our circumstances, we exercise His power to overcome – to rise above our situation. And if we look to Jesus in those moments, often we find He wants us to serve our fellow man. His power is the power to serve others.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

Jesus – Mark 10:45 NASB

And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;

Ephesians 4:11-12 NASB

“And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.”

Jesus – Matt 10:42 NASB

Jesus Frees

When we follow Jesus, he frees us and gives us the power to serve. Our service to others makes Jesus visible. When we trust Jesus enough to give over and above what others might expect, our faith and our Savior become visible. We obey Jesus and His kingdom becomes visible too.

Uncertainty

I have a friend whose company is being acquired. Daily he and his coworkers experience uncertainty, fear, stress, and work challenges because the normal operation of a long-standing, for-profit company is being transformed. The uncertainty and confusion cause my friend to wonder if he should start looking for his next job.

Supernatural Peace

Every day, Jesus’ supernatural peace and confidence become more visible to the degree my friend can trust Jesus. Because my friend knows God will provide, the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to separate ourselves from our circumstances. But He doesn’t do this for us alone. He challenges us to serve others so they might see the peace He provides. He strengthens us to serve those around us who are upset, unprepared, tense, or worrisome so they might see Him and the peace He provides.

You Can Serve Someone

What situation are you in today where you can serve someone? Whatever it is, when you serve someone in the name of Jesus, you join Jesus on His mission trip. Wherever you are, and whoever you’re with, Jesus gives you the power to serve. And when you do, you will not lose your reward.
